Christoph Graupner - Christmas Cantatas

A contemporary of Bach, Handel and Telemann, the prolific baroque composer Christoph Graupner remains unjustly neglected. He composed a 1442 cantatas, most of which remain to be discovered.

Graupner initially pipped Bach to the post of Kantor in Leipzig. Although well preserved, his works fell into obscurity when his heirs were stopped from publishing them. Fieri Consort and Danish ensemble Camerata Øresund are collaborating to revive some of these cantatas.

Their collaboration began in Ireland at the West Cork Music Festival with Monteverdi in 2019. In 2022, the two ensembles performed together in Denmark and plans are afoot for future performances in 2024 and a recording to be released in 2025.
